State filters BLM claims and USGS sites. Commodity filters USGS sites only; BLM’s national claim layer does not identify commodities. BLM claim outlines are visible at local zoom levels. Use “Zoom to claim” or the + control, then click a claim or site for its record.

About the records and map coverage

BLM active/closed refers to claim case status, not a mine’s operating status. This map displays mapped records supplied by BLM; cases without usable geometry cannot appear. Claim polygons may represent PLSS sections or quarter sections rather than surveyed claim boundaries. Counts are source records, and overlapping or multipart claims can occur.

The USGS MRDS hosted copy used here was last edited in May 2023. USGS MRDS is a historical inventory of mines, prospects, occurrences and processing sites. “Producer” and “Past Producer” are recorded development statuses and do not confirm current operation. Commodity sites do not establish BLM claim ownership or land availability. Closed claims do not establish that land is available for staking.
